Translating Technology with Humor
Over the past couple of months a certain cartoon has been bleeding through the Internet. The cartoon highlights the true emotions of having a cat. These cat videos makes anyone who owns or have crossed paths with a cat, laugh and say ‘They do that!’ So without further introduction, I give you ‘Simon’s Cat’ which you can watch all three episodes so far at: http://www.youtube.com/user/simonscat

In the future Computers will be able to take care of themselves… I would really love to see this happen to many people that have abused the god given right of abusing battery operated devices.
The latest video from Chinese engineers is a great concept with many issues. This video explains the Non-Stop train concept. Of course having a train that doesn’t stop would be more efficient except if you actually wanted to get off the train. This concept uses pods on the tops of the train that passengers get in and out of, I’m not sure if you can escape your pod if lets say you really don’t want to get off the next stop. The ending part shows the miniature match-box car version with the investors looking like they’ve just seen a ghost. Of course adding and releasing a car on top of a train going a hundred miles an hour is a little different then a computer and miniature model. A youtube video might be the only place for this Technically Foreign concept!
I recently posted a Youtube video “Technically a Translation” which shows how languages are similar. However what happens when an American song is translated by a Bulgarian singer who tries to sing it in English? The following clip is what the Mariah Carey song ‘Without You’ apparently sounds like to this Bulgarian Idol wanna be. The subtitles are translating the Bulgarian into English… or something else entirely.
So while cruising through the information super highway’s underbelly I came across this funny but interesting video. Is this an Ad? One of those Technically Foreign Video’s that most of us can sit back with a ‘dam that seems familiar’ smile.

A friend showed me this ‘translation’ of an Indian music video. I’m still laughing deep, deep, deeeeep inside. The translation (or interpretation or guess or this should be on the daily show) is exactly how I feel when I’m listening into foreign conversations. You pick-up on words, those English-like words and assume that’s what they are saying. Usually you’re batting way below average, but occasionally some English words like ‘Internet’, ‘Computer’ and ‘American Idol’ are easy to spot. For this video, I do believe this is not a ‘translation’ but the Technically Foreign way Indian’s speak:
